Do You Really Have to Leave Heating On for Pre-Heat

I saw a post on Facebook (or somewhere, can't remember) where someone mentioned their pre-heat didn’t work from the app one time. Someone else commented saying that, for pre-conditioning to work, you actually need to leave the heating switched on when you exit the car. Is that really how it works? Anyone else heard this? Seems a bit odd!

Yeah, that sounds about right! Leaving the heating on might be necessary for it to pre-condition properly.

Weird, I've never heard of that. Usually, you can pre-condition your car remotely, no matter what the car's settings are. You should check the manual or ask a Toyota dealer. Maybe there's some weird setting or something that needs to be on for it to work

That’s an interesting one. With most pre-conditioning systems, the app should activate heating or cooling based on your settings, so leaving the heating on when you exit shouldn’t be necessary. It could be a quirk of the Fiat system, though. If in doubt, I’d test it both ways to see if it makes a difference, better to know for sure than to guess.

That's not odd at all. It is actually true. I don't remember knowing something else different.

That's actually right! For pre-conditioning to work from the app, you need to leave the heat on when you exit the car. The system uses the car's settings at shutdwn to determine how to pre-heat it. If you turn off the heat before exiting, the car might not know to turn it back on. Pretty interesting, huh?
