My 500e died unexpectedly last night. I restarted it several times and even jump-started it, but with no success. I needed to have it towed to the dealership. They identified the problem as a dead battery, which I expected given that my vehicle is a 2019 model. However, they later called to inform me that the Power Inverter Module (PIM) also needed to be replaced, at a significant cost of $16k. Is this legit? Has anyone else had issues with their PIM?

Fiat America is totally insisting on swapping out the PIM before they’ll even look at covering the battery pack warranty, even if the PIM looks fine and dandy. I saw this one person online who took a stand against this nonsense, demanding some solid proof that the PIM was actually the problem before agreeing to let them replace it. After a bunch of back-and-forth and pushing for evidence, Fiat America finally gave in, swapped out the battery pack, and bam, problem solved with no more fuss. So yeah, kinda smells fishy, don’t you think?
