I’ve got a quirky little problem with my 2017 500e. The odometer is flashing like it’s trying to send me a secret message, but the car itself seems to be running just fine. I've seen some chatter about flashing odometers and other weird stuff going on, but mine’s just the odometer doing its thing. Anyone else dealt with this? What gives?

When the odometer starts flashing, it typically signals a communication issue between the stereo/screen system and the ECU. Trust me, I learned this the hard way when my ECU’s grounding wire decided to give up the ghost and snap. At that point, I also needed a new battery. But after swapping out both components, the problem disappeared.

Thanks for your response.
I’ll swing by the dealer and see what they can do about it. At least everything’s working along just fine - just that pesky flashing odometer!

Have you hit up the dealer yet? What did they say? Did they manage to sort out your issues or what?

Nah, I haven’t swung by the dealer since my buddy suggested I give charging my ride a go with an OEM charger. I was running on fumes, like under 10% SOC, after a long trip before all this craziness started!

After an overnight charge with that OEM charger, my odometer magically stopped flashing. What a relief!

That’s awesome to hear! It’s crazy how a little charge can work wonders like that. So, is your car all good now? No other quirky glitches showing up?

Yeah, thank goodness it's cruising along without any weird lights flashing. I was definitely pushing my luck there! 😅
