I’m about to get my hands on a new 500e, and I’m super curious about the keyless system.

Can I just leave the key in my pocket while driving, or do I actually need to pull it out?

Sorry if this sounds like a goofy question, I’m just getting the hang of things since this is my first vehicle!

No worries, it’s not a goofy question at all...you can leave the key in your pocket while driving. The car will detect it automatically. If you walk away with the key still in your pocket, an alarm will go off, so you’re all good

Oh, nice! That’s super convenient! But what happens if the battery in the key fob dies? Am I totally stuck or is there a workaround?

If the key fob battery dies, most cars have a backup method to start the vehicle, like using the fob directly on a specific spot or a manual override. You’ll want to check your owner’s manual for details
