Hello everyone!

I’m in a bit of a pickle with my Fiat 500e - my key is totally stuck in the ignition! The battery's only 5 months old, so what’s up with that? I’ve tried all the usual tricks, but no luck getting it out! Has anyone else had this headache? Any tips to rescue my key would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Chuck.

Oh man, I’ve been there! My 12V battery died, and I couldn’t lock my door or get the key out of the ignition, complete chaos! For EVs, there’s a slot on the passenger side of the console. Just pop off the cover, grab a screwdriver, and give that mechanism a little wiggle to set your key free. Try if that works.

You’re totally right! The 500e has that little removable cover on the right side of the console, but it’s missing any internal mechanism.

However, swapping out the car 5-month old battery? That’s definitely not the norm!

The biggest headache with both gas and electric rides, including the 500e, is that pesky dead 12V battery. The bummer is that the warning system usually doesn’t give you a heads-up until it’s too late and the battery’s totally drained. Annoying, I know. That’s why snagging a Bluetooth monitor is a smart move, early detection is key, yknow!

The 500e doesn’t need much juice to kick things off, so by the time you catch a problem, the battery voltage might’ve already taken a nosedive. This can lead to some annoying glitches in the car’s computer that stick around even after you swap in a new battery. So better safe than sorry, yeah?
