I’m getting ready to re-solder a new 3-prong plug head onto the end of my Fiat 500e charger, and I want to make sure it can handle the load properly without any issues. The charger has been great so far, but the plug has been showing some wear and tear, and I figured it was time for a small DIY fix. I’m no stranger to small electrical repairs, but this is the first time I’m tackling something that deals with the charger for an EV. 😵

I've been looking around at plug head options, but I’m still not 100% sure what’s the safest and most reliable choice for the load balance on this setup. I want to avoid any overheating or damaging the charger. does anyone have any recommendations on a specific plug head that works well with EV chargers like the one for the 500e? should watch out for when soldering and replacing the plug?

As long as you want to make sure that the plug can handle the load properly, you are on a good track.
Anyway, opt for a 15-amp plug with standard screw terminals. It should work well with the charger.
And please, I mean, PLEASE, always plug the charger into a commercial or industrial-grade outlet. You seriously want to avoid overheating. In fact, here is the key. Have an outlet designed to handle higher loads and your car is safe.

As for the soldering, clean the surfaces, use the right type of solder, and secure connections to minimize any risk of overheating. Good luck with the repair!

When choosing a new plug for your Fiat 500e charger, just make sure to get a high-quality one that can handle the load. And when you're soldering, keep an eye on the insulation to avoid any issues.
