I’m experiencing some really strange electrical behavior with my 2017 Fiat 500e. In the middle of the night, the car alarm suddenly went off. Horn beeping, lights flashing, the whole deal. I thought someone might be trying to break in. As soon as I clicked my key to open the door, everything stopped.

After two days, and in the scorching heat, probably around 120 degrees, my AC suddenly went out. To make matters worse, I received a TPMS warning, and all four tire measurements showed as blank. Oddly enough, the car still charged and drove fine, aside from the AC issue.

I discovered a blown 10 amp fuse that was linked to both the TPMS and the AC under the steering column. After replacing the fuse, all sorts of warning lights went up, and I couldn’t drive the car or remove the key. But the AC and TPMS functions returned. Now, if I remove that fuse, I can drive and charge the car, but obviously, I lose AC and TPMS functionality.

I replaced the 12v battery since it was three years old, but that didn’t resolve the issue. I have already tried cycling the key off and on ten times without success. Today, I disconnected the negative terminal and will let the car sit for over 30 hours to see if that helps. I think that a rat might have been into the engine compartment. Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Have you thought about getting a diagnostic scan for the error codes? It could help find the main issue with the electrical problems. Also, checking the connections near that fuse you replaced might just uncover some sneaky issues lurking around!

You might also try to mess with the ECU. After disconnecting the negative terminal, slap it back on and try a full reset of the system. If you haven’t done it yet, just chill for a bit before reconnecting.

With all the symptoms and the tricky stuff going on, it’s probably a good idea to get a mechanic or electrician to take a peek. They’ll be able to spot any hidden electrical gremlins!
