I am considering purchasing a 2013 500e for my Mum in Nashville. I want to get it from AutoNation. Can anyone guide me on how to test for weak cells in the car? I saw somewhere that I could use the alphaOBD app. And I will also appreciate any sincere opinion any one has about the car. Thanks

Hey LucyM, you can use the alphaOBD app to scan the battery and check for weak cells, or get a professional to perform a battery health check. The 500e is generally reliable, but keep an eye on its battery life as it's an older model.

Hey, @LucyM! It is nice you are thinking about your mum. As @Sandy said, using the alphaOBD app, can help you check the cells. But you can do these, too:
- look for big differences in capacity between cells;
- check the battery voltage by monitoring it during a test drive. If you see any drops, it could indicate weak cells;
- ask AutoNatio about the range on a full charge.

I know many people who used the car for a while or are still using it, and the common thing they said was it is good for city driving. Good luck with the purchase.

Honestly, getting a pro inspection is the best move. They’ll find any hidden problems, check the battery accurately, and see if updates or repairs are needed. It’s just a smarter way to buy a car!

Totally agree with @hulksmash. Plus, don't forget to check for any wear, make sure the charging works, and peek at the maintenance history. The 500e is super fun for city driving, but the battery needs to be in good shape for it to last!

I found a fix for testing weak cells in the 500e! I used the alphaOBD app, and it worked great for checking the battery's health. As for the car itself, it’s been reliable and has good range, but just keep an eye on the battery condition. Thanks, everyone, for all your contributions! They really helped me out.

How cool is that? Good job! How is you mum feeling about the car?
