It looks like my EV charging connector is having trouble disconnecting from the car.

I'm having some trouble with my EV charging connector. It's stuck to my car and won't let go. I plugged it in as usual and saw the goal posts, but now I can't remove the connector from the car.

I've tried a few things, including turning off the power to the charger and unplugging the negative side of the 12v battery, but nothing seems to work. I also tried unlocking the car, but that didn't work.

The charger I'm using is a Mustart model, with no options or settings to change.

Has anyone encountered this problem before, or do you have any suggestions for what else I could try? Thank you for your help!

Hey so I have not experienced this, but I think I can help. I feel the the problem might just be with the plug itself, since the release mechanism is probably electrically controlled. It’s also possible the car had a little glitch, which happens pretty often and can mess things up, rebooting the car's electronics by leaving the car off for 10-15 minutes and then trying again can help reset things.

To protect the onboard charger, try not to power up the EVSE while it’s plugged into the car. I hope this helps. If none of these work, reaching out to the manufacturer for guidance might be the next best move, especially if it’s a hardware issue. Let us know how it goes!

I had a similar run-in with a Mustart charger, and let me tell you - it was a mess! I ended up taking the whole thing apart. Just had to unscrew the pin under the button to mess with the connector, and with a little drilling and some screwdriver action, it finally let go. But honestly? I tossed it aside and never looked back. Seriously, save yourself the trouble and avoid this charger! No way it’s worth it!

Thanks ! I was wondering if it might be a glitch with the car’s electronics too, especially since the release mechanism seems to be acting up. I’ll try leaving the car off for a bit and see if that helps reset everything. I didn’t think about the EVSE still being powered up, so I’ll make sure it’s off before I try again.

If that doesn’t work, I’ll definitely reach out to Mustart to see if it could be a hardware issue on their end. Hopefully, it’s something simple and doesn’t turn into a bigger problem. I’ll keep you posted on what happens, fingers crossed!
