A friend was scammed sometime ago.

She bought a 2014 Fiat 500 e car with a "dead'' HV battery from someone. She didn't know this, because the person assured it would work if she took it to a charger. Well, he has been reported for curbstoning to the DMV. The car has been uncharged for about 2 months now, and when we try to put in a charger, we can hear the connector attempt to click. The ETS "Electric Tire Shredder" has been quite helpful and she has been able to document my issues, the odometer is blinking and we guess it needs a proxy alignment reset.

My first question is this, for the Electric Tire Shredder, I would like to know if we need to unplug the HV/12V for 30 hours if, of course, we want to manually go in with an OBDLink SX and Alfa. Or we don't need to start with the obd2 yellow cable disconnected for 30 hours since we have the equipment and we only need to reset it if we don't have the physical cables?

Yeah, you could probably just turn off the humidity sensor and run the OBD, but honestly, that’s a long shot. You’d likely need to reboot the 12V or high-voltage systems to really get it going!

You don’t usually need to disconnect the HV/12V for 30 hours with the OBDLink SX and Alfa software. Unplugging the battery can reset some modules, but you can handle proxy alignment and issues directly via OBDII without that hassle. Just ensure the vehicle is safe to work on and follow high-voltage safety precautions.

When that odometer starts flashing at you, it’s a sign your proxy settings are a bit out of whack. A hard reset isn’t likely to fix the issue, so don’t get your hopes up! This misalignment can throw off your car’s gauge readings and the OBD, plus it might mess with the cell voltages. So, yeah, it’s a bit of a headache!

Oh, what a mess @LucyM! So, you don't need to disconnect the battery before using the OBDLink SX and Alfa software. Yes, unplugging it can reset some modules, but you can tackle the proxy alignment issues directly via OBDII without too much headaches.

As for that blinking odometer - your proxy settings are off... I am sorry, but don't get your hopes too high!

Thanks everyone!

I tried this, and it worked! There was no need to disconnect the battery, I just used the OBDLink SX and Alfa software, and the proxy alignment fixed the blinking odometer. Appreciate the help!

Oh, wow! You just made my day with the great news! What can I say? I am glad my reply was helpful. I wish you the best for you and your car.
