What's the deal with the Fiat 500e Shifter's Secret Fifth Button?

So I stumbled upon this cool tidbit online about a secret fifth button on the Fiat 500e shifter. I'm super intrigued to know what it's all about. But here's the kicker - why doesn't the cover match up with the button if it's meant to do something, right?

That looks like the circular gear selector. Afaik it's not used in most Fiat models.

The 500e's gear selector is push-button.
