I’ve noticed lately that my outside temperature reading has been quite a bit off. It showed 124°F when the actual temperature outside was around 110°F. I think the sensor is located in the passenger mirror, and the car had been sitting in the sun, but the difference seems to be bigger over time.

The cabin AC is working fine, so i think there are no issues there, and from what I’ve read, the HV battery has its own sensors, so I don’t think this is related to the battery. But does the outside temp reading really matter, especially with this much variance? Has anyone else noticed this happening, or is it just normal wear and tear? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Temp sensor is hanging out under the passenger-side mirror, and it might be picking up heat from the pavement. If you turn the car away from the sun, that could help. Chances are, everything's probably working fine, it’s just been a scorcher lately!

Were you just parked when you noticed that? Ambient temp sensors really thrive on some airflow to keep things accurate! If they're just hanging out, heat from nearby stuff can totally mess with them. So keep an eye out, esp if those temps start climbing!

This stuff can really be a pain, especially with those older rides. Sure, it might just be that normal wear and tear, but if your ride keeps acting all goofy, it might be time to check if a sensor’s gone totally haywire.

This is gonna mess with how the battery cooling management system works. I had a similar issue, but the other way around, the temp dropped 18 degrees cooler, which kicked the battery heater into gear and zapped my range. I ended up just biting the bullet and getting a replacement to fix it.

Yeah, that makes sense. It’s wild how sensitive these systems can be. I guess it’s all about finding that balance between performance and keeping everything in check.

Thanks, appreciate the tip!! That makes sense. it’s been super hot lately, and the pavement could definitely be messing with the sensor. I’ll try parking it out of the sun more often and see if that helps.
